Ms. Kuzel is from California where she began her career interning at Green Dot in Los Angeles. She graduated California State University Long Beach with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She then attended graduate school at Chapman University earning her Master of Arts in Educational Psychology and Educational Specialist Degree in School Psychology. With over a decade of experience in various roles in education, Ms. Kuzel has always felt driven to serve children and adolescents. She believes that with the right support and strong advocacy, all students are capable of success. Ms. Kuzel is an avid traveler, fitness instructor, and brunch enthusiast.
As a mental health professional, professional educator and professional musician, Mr. Mayne brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our school. He has worked in a metropolitan-area community mental health agency in community support and taught in the DC and Colorado Public Schools. As a seasoned professional trombonist, music is a huge part of Gary’s life as he continues to perform and nurture his passion for Latin music. He is thrilled to serve as Destiny’s Counselor, providing care and compassion to our students and school community.
L. Allen Crosby
Ms. “L”. Allen Crosby is a native of Washington, DC with 20 years experience of improving the lives of underserved and underrepresented populations. Ms. “L” graduated from the University of Maryland University College with a degree in English and a minor in African-American Studies. She then earned her master’s degree from Trinity Washington University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. As a mental health professional and mentor to young women and girls, Ms. “L” is passionate about helping people improve their lives and become their authentic selves. Ms. “L” enjoys traveling, interior decorating, antique shopping and spending time with family and friends.
Ms. “L” is thrilled to serve as Destiny’s School Counselor, working closely with Mr. Mayne, and providing consistent support, care and compassion to the students and school community here at Destiny.
Parent & Community Engagement Coordinator
Ms. Appia grew up locally and graduated from Federal Way High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington with a double major in Social Science and Communications and attended graduate courses at UW’s College of Education. After working with Tacoma Goodwill Industries as a job developer, she transitioned to teaching in Seattle through an opportunity with Teach For America. She is excited to now be in a role which combines her passion of engaging with families and the community, along with still being able to support students directly. Ms. Appia enjoys spending free time at home with her family, playing Xbox, and taking pictures of delicious food!
