Student & Family Support Team
Ms. Kuzel is from California where she began her career interning at Green Dot in Los Angeles. She graduated California State University Long Beach with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She then attended graduate school at Chapman University earning her Master of Arts in Educational Psychology and Educational Specialist Degree in School Psychology. With over a decade of experience in various roles in education, Ms. Kuzel has always felt driven to serve children and adolescents. She believes that with the right support and strong advocacy, all students are capable of success. Ms. Kuzel is an avid traveler, fitness instructor, and brunch enthusiast.
As a mental health professional, professional educator and professional musician, Mr. Mayne brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our school. He has worked in a metropolitan-area community mental health agency in community support and taught in the DC and Colorado Public Schools. As a seasoned professional trombonist, music is a huge part of Gary’s life as he continues to perform and nurture his passion for Latin music. He is thrilled to serve as Destiny’s Counselor, providing care and compassion to our students and school community.
L. Allen Crosby
Ms. “L”. Allen Crosby is a native of Washington, DC with 20 years experience of improving the lives of underserved and underrepresented populations. Ms. “L” graduated from the University of Maryland University College with a degree in English and a minor in African-American Studies. She then earned her master’s degree from Trinity Washington University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. As a mental health professional and mentor to young women and girls, Ms. “L” is passionate about helping people improve their lives and become their authentic selves. Ms. “L” enjoys traveling, interior decorating, antique shopping and spending time with family and friends.
Ms. “L” is thrilled to serve as Destiny’s School Counselor, working closely with Mr. Mayne, and providing consistent support, care and compassion to the students and school community here at Destiny.
Parent and Community Engagement Coordinator
Mrs. Klippert has worked in the non-profit sector for the last seven years and is thrilled to bring her experience with community engagement, social justice advocacy, and nonprofit development with her to Destiny. The majority of her professional experience has been spent working with youth and children’s programs, and she is looking forward to continuing her work with youth. She is passionate about fair housing opportunities and currently sits as Chair of the Tacoma Coalition to End Youth Homelessness. In her free time, she likes to travel, cook, and play music.
Mrs. Combs was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest in nearby Sumner. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Central Washington University focusing on community health and nutrition initiatives. For the last seven years, she worked as a program director at a local non-profit serving youth and families. She is looking forward to meeting and serving Destiny families through the front office operations. Outside of school, Mrs. Combs and her husband enjoy hosting barbecues and spending time on Hood Canal.
