7th Grade English/Language Arts
What brought you to Rainier Valley Leadership Academy?
The student population at RVLA brought me to the school and the fact that I believe it is essential for RVLA scholars to see Admin and Teachers who like them everyday leading and being excellent role models.
Why did you decide to become a teacher?
I decided to become a Teacher after being a Journalist for several years and I went back to school to get my Masters of Education. I wanted to make a broader impact with the use of reading and writing as my vehicle. I have always been seen as a strong and respected role model for scholars. Also, my Mom was an amazing Elementary Teacher so I grew up in the classroom and saw how a Teacher can be caring and excellent at the same time through my Mom's example.
What motivates you to come to work every morning?
The impact I am making on scholars and the role model I am to scholars motivates me to come to work every morning. Also the creative aspect of creating lessons and curriculum plays a big role.
How or why does the RVLA mission of serving all students resonate with your personal values?
The power of an education is so important to me. I have seen how getting a quality education can change lives and I believe all scholars can and will rise to the occasion of excellence both personally and academically.
