The RVLA Difference

Most people don’t remember middle school very positively. There are a lot of contributing factors to that, not the least of which is the possibility of being “unseen” by teachers and staff. At Rainier Valley Leadership Academy Middle School, we see all students! Our small school community allows adults to know each and every student by name, strength and need. We pride ourselves on building and maintaining close relationships with students and families. We’ve brought together a talented staff who are committed to helping students and families achieve their goals through an academically rigorous college preparatory environment focused on high expectations and support, safety, and joy.

Words From Our Community

"There's a consistent, friendly and open communication between parents and teachers. Parents know when they can call. I have goals set up with parents through text messaging for their students. There's never a time when I have parent teacher conferences in which something was a surprise."

"We really believe that if we're going to prepare students for college, leadership and life, and high school, we have to also make this a place where kids can take a lot of pride in coming to this school and contributing to the community."

"I believe this school is really going to help him. I know schools are schools, but this feels more like a family."

RVLA Middle School is driven by our six Core Values:

Responsibility

We own our actions, our words, our things and our community.

Exploration

We dig deep to learn more about ourselves, others and the world.

Compassion

We are respectful and kind to ourselves and others.

Integrity

We do the right thing, even when no one is watching.

Perseverance

We set goals and do whatever it takes to accomplish them. We never give up.

Excellence

We bring our best to all we do.

At RVLA Middle School, our teachers and staff strive to live out these core values in everything we do; they are an inherent part of our culture. We are committed to providing the following to all students who join us on our educational journey:

  • A public middle school that’s free and open to all students
  • Personalized learning for all students
  • A teacher mentor for every child
  • A rigorous, college-going culture
  • Technology to enhance learning
  • Family partnerships and programming
  • Free transportation options for all students

We look forward to sharing how we put your child on the pathway to college, leadership and life!
