Green Dot Public Schools’ Rainier Valley Leadership Academy High School is a 9-12 public charter school serving southeast Seattle’s Rainier Valley community. We respect and celebrate the wealth and vitality of the ethnic and cultural traditions that thrive in our neighborhood. Our mission is to put every child on the path to success in college, leadership, and life.
We offer integrated, college-ready, hands-on instruction to expose all students to a variety of experiences. Our teachers use complex instruction based upon data collection to meet student needs and differentiation. We use common planning time and collaborative team time to analyze data to inform instruction. Our wonderfully diverse faculty and staff have not only excellent educational credentials, but also bring to their classrooms many years of dedication to student success and passion for our mission.
RVLA HS Core Values: Panther Habits
RVLA HS recognizes that growing strong habits in students is an ongoing process. It is the duty of the school and students’ parents/guardians to take notice of each student’s growth, coach student behavior, and enable each student to understand how personal habits inform their successes and college-readiness. The RVLA HS Culture Framework is aligned to the Leadership Habits below:
Grit + Hustle
We passionately and steadfastly pursue our goals. Effort is everything.
We acknowledge and honor ourselves, our community, and the world around us. By giving respect, we get it in return.
We see benefits and the potential for growth in all of our experiences. Our outlook shapes our lives.
We are the agents of our own future. We create opportunities for ourselves.
We lead by showing the world the best in ourselves. Our actions are our guide to others.
Rainier Valley Leadership Academy’s High School will open in August 2018, starting with our first ninth grade class, and will roll up to a full 9-12th grade high school over the next four years.
The work of Green Dot Public Schools is driven by our unwavering belief in the potential of ALL students, eliminating barriers to learning and continuously striving for student success. We believe every student in every community deserves to go to a great school. The Seattle Advisory Team, a group of parents, educators, community members and stakeholders, came together in 2014 to explore the possibility of bringing Green Dot's model to the diverse Southeast Seattle community. We are thrilled to welcome our first class of 9th grade students in August 2018.
About Green Dot Public Schools
Green Dot opened with one school serving 140 students in 2000 in Los Angeles. Today it is a network of schools that serves over 13,000 students across 28 schools in three states. In our sixteen year history, Green Dot has graduated more than 12,000 students with nearly 90% accepted to two- and four-year colleges.
Unique in the nation for a major non-profit charter management organization, Green Dot is proving it can achieve better student outcomes with the same student population, lower per pupil funding than the district and a unionized workforce. We are one of the top three largest charter operators in the nation.
